Floral Birthday

Today's card came about by accident.  I was trying a different technique that didn't work and ended up with this white card base with the hexagons embossed with the Cuttlebug Honeycomb embossing folder and the frame cut out with Papertrey Ink's Mat Stack 4 Die.  I didn't want to throw out the base, since it was kind of cool, so I cut a piece of vellum 1/4" taller than the card base, folded over that quarter inch, put adhesive on it, and adhered it inside.  I did the same thing with a piece of striped paper.

When the card is closed flat, the stripes really show through.  The sentiment that I heat embossed on the vellum is from Papertrey Ink's Stylish Sentiments:  Birthday stamp set.

These fun flowers were made with the PTI Notched Flower Dies and stamped with images from one of PTI's anniversary sets, Funky Florals.  I heat embossed the center image with white embossing powder.  The leaves were made with PTI's Ruby Rose stamps and dies.

MCT Designer Challenge

My Creative Time designer Stacey has a fun new challenge for us today:  make a project using no patterned paper!  It's okay to create your own using some MCT stamps, but no store bought paper is allowed for this challenge.  This was actually quite fun!  I started with a cream card base, and then added a canyon clay layer that I edged with one of the Fun Stitched Edges Dies on one side.  I adhered this layer to the left side of my card base.  Then I took another cream layer and did a little bit of inking with some Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and the Heidi Swapp Polka Dot 6x6 Stencil.  Before adhering this to the card, I used the Stitched Chevy Dies to die cut three chevron shapes out of this layer.

Next I die-cut three more chevron shapes, but this time out of colored cardstock.  I stamped each with coordinating inks, using patterns from Build a Banner Kit and Coffee Break, and then adhered them into the openings in the cream base.

Finally, I added a cute vintage typewriter made with the Typewriter Die and the Once Upon a Time Stamp Set.

MCT Try Me Tuesday

It's Try Me Tuesday with My Creative Time, and today we are making cards using dies to make our card bases! I used one of the tags from Tag Dies for my base by folding my white cardstock in half and placing the fold beneath where the hole in the tag cuts out.  Doesn't it make a cute card base?  Then I tried something new:  embossing paste!  I rubbed some Hero Arts Butter Bar ink onto my kraft mat and stirred in a little Wendy Vecchi White Embossing Paste.  Then I used the Heidi Swapp Polka Dot 6x6 Stencil to get the fun yellow polka dots onto the card base.

To get the fun chipboard effect with the balloons, I used the Stitched Party Dies and cut the balloons from Papertrey Ink coasters and then layered another layer from Echo Park's Splendid Sunshine 6x6 paper pad.  Some Glossy Accents adhered the hemp "strings" to the balloons.  The sentiment, from Vintage Sentiments is stamped on a die cut made with one of the Vintage Stitched Label Dies.
