I was recently contacted by Card Care Connection, an organization that collects homemade cards to send to cancer patients upon request by family and friends. I don't know many people whose lives have not been touched by cancer in some way. I have 2 aunts who are breast cancer survivors, have lost a dear cousin to breast cancer, and was a caregiver for my ex-boyfriend when he went through chemo, radiation, and later a stem cell transplant for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I've seen the suffering first hand and know how a simple gesture such as receiving a handmade card from a stranger could bring up one's spirits.
I definitely want to help out by making some cards and spreading the word to all of you, so that you can get involved too. How many of us have a stash of cards that could be put to some good use?
They are looking for A2 size cards that are blank inside, so I made one with cute koala from the new Cricut Create a Critter 2 cartridge, cut at 3". I added a little cardstock button to the heart. I didn't want to use a real button, as that would make the card bulky for mailing.
The sentiments they are looking for are not "get well" or religious sentiments. They would like sentiments that are uplifting and general in nature. I found this cute sentiment on My Creative Time's Just a Little Note to Say stamp set. There are lots of great sentiments on many My Creative Time stamp sets that will be perfect for these cards. I plan to make a bunch more over the next couple of weeks and then mail them off. If you would like to get involved, check out the guidelines here.
