Snow Day!

This is not crafting related, but I thought that all of my blogging friends who've been inundated with snow this year might get a kick out of this. We live just outside of San Francisco, and everybody was hyped up all week about the possibility of snow! Unfortunately, we didn't get any at our house, but Eric and I hopped into the car for a snow hunt yesterday and found some 20 minutes away. Eric made this very short movie trailer about our adventure.

Have a Sham-rockin' Day!

One of my new Papertrey Ink stamp sets is the Bitty Background Blocks. They are cute little background squares that can be stamped on the square die from the Button Card Collection. To make my shamrock out of these, I first die cut 9 of the squares and then stamped them with 3 different backgrounds in New Leaf ink. After inking around the edges, I lined them up on a brand new Cricut mat (I don't think it would have worked with an older mat, using these small squares). Once on the mat, they made a square that was about 4 1/2", letting me cut a 4" shamrock from Designer's Calendar. I then cut the shadow in green and glued all of the little pieces onto it.

For my sentiment, I cut a piece from the Papertrey Ink Mat Stack 4. Using a sentiment from My Creative Time's "I Believe in Leprechauns", I stamped it with Versamark ink and then heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

It's time for February's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop! The challenge this month is to use scallops somewhere on your project. I used my Fiskar's Treading Water Border Punch for my scallops. I'd Rather Be Crafting...

This is my 2nd post for today. Be sure to scroll down to see my Creative Critterz Imaginations Design Team post, featuring another one of Emma's stamp sets!

When I saw this sentiment from My Creative Time's "Paper Princess" Stamp Set, it made me think of all those times when we're at work and would much rather be crafting. The idea came to me to make a little business woman with her briefcase in one hand, but her Gypsy in the other. I thought this Peachy Keen face just said it all.

I was so excited to try out the Gypsy cut from my new Cricut Circle cartridge, Cricut Everyday. It's so cute, and my son even knew what it was (although he was embarrassed to admit it)! Notice the little Stickles nail polish on our business woman. :-)

For my sentiment tag, I just used my Gypsy to group together a triangle on top of a rectangle at a size that would fit my sentiment. Here is a look at the full "Paper Princess" Stamp Set.

Don't forget to stop by My Creative Time to see what the rest of the design team has created today!

Smile!

For my Creative Critterz Imaginations post this week, I made a card for a friend who is going through a rough time. I love this sentiment from My Creative Time's "Turn That Frown Upside Down" Stamp Set. Combined with this happy caterpillar who is escaping from his bug jar, it has to cheer somebody up!

The sign (cut at 3") and the caterpillar (cut at 2") are from the Walk In My Garden Cricut cartridge. The 3.5" jar is from Boys Will Be Boys, and the grass (cut at 1.2") is from Plantin Schoolbook. I used my Imagine for the entire card. All of the colors and patterns are from the Imagine More Cards cartridge, except for the grass, which is from the Best Friends cartridge.

For the bug jar, I used the "cut only" feature and cut it once in white and once in vellum. I then put the caterpillar in between the two layers, adhering him to the white layer, and stitching around the edges to fasten them together.

Birthdays Layout

This was a really fun layout to make. I used my favorite Papertrey Ink stamps and dies, "Banner Builder," for my title. The little medallions are popped up with foam squares. There is not a die for that little 1/2" circle, so I used the punchouts that are created when using the ekSuccess Circles Large Edger Punch. They are the perfect size! Notice the cute little "screw" brads that I found at Michael's yesterday. :-)

The bee is cut at 4" from Birthday Bash. He usually holds a little pail, but I replaced that with an oval stamped with a journaling tag from My Creative Time's "My Journaling" Stamp Set. Perfect! Behind the bee is a 4.25" circle from Cricut Classic Font, which I ran through the Windowpanes Cuttlebug folder.

Beach Bum Layout

Here's the 2nd page in my 1999 Newport Beach layout. I kept this one pretty simple to keep this scrapbook moving! The title is from Pack Your Bags, cut at 3". My sun border is from Cricut Classic Font. I welded together three of them, at 1.5", on my Gypsy.

I love these swim trunks! They're also from Pack Your Bags, cut at 3".

This super cute journaling tag is a stamp from My Creative Time's "My Journaling" stamp set. I just cut a rectangle a round it and rounded the corners.

PTI Lunchbox Note Die

My Papertrey Ink order arrived today, and in it was the Lunchbox Note die I've been waiting for. It sold out quickly in last month's release, and then I had to wait for this month's release to combine it with other items to get my free shipping. :-)

This die can be used to make cute little notes to put in your child's lunchbox. I'm not sure my 15-year-old son would appreciate them much, but I know that my 2nd and 3rd grade students will! Today I made a couple of thank you notes that I can use for little gifts and trinkets. In the picture above you can see how they look from the back and the front. This patterned paper is single-sided, so I can write a little note inside. Here is how they look opened up:

Ladybug Birthday Tag

My niece Sarah is turning 7 tomorrow, and I wanted to make a tag to match the wrapping paper on her gift. I cut a tag from Sweet Treats at 5" and added a 2 1/2" ladybug (real size) from Just Because Cards. The white at the top of the tag is a layer, but I added another layer at the bottom that I edged with the Martha Stewart Ribbon Loop Punch.

The sentiment is from a new My Creative Time set, "Polka Dot Surprise". I just love the large size of this stamp and the cute polka dots! Click here for ordering information.

Episode 11: Quilling with the Imagine

For my design team project for Creative Critterz Imaginations this week, I wanted to try something different. Yesterday I was in a quilling blog hop, and I quilled for the first time, with the help of a Cuttlebug Quilling Kit. It was very fun and got me thinking about quilling patterned paper that I could create on the Imagine.

I had a wooden spool leftover from some Papertrey Ink button twine, and I thought it could make the perfect little "flowerpot". I just printed a patterned rectangle from the Imagine, cut it to size, and adhered it to the spool with Scotch Quick Dry. Some gold ribbon, a cheery big red button, and some button twine were the perfect embellishments.

For my flowers, I printed more patterned rectangles (double-sided) that I die cut with my Cuttlebug and the quilling dies. I knew the whole process would be very difficult to explain, so I made a little video. The two cartridges that I used for patterns were the Imagine More and the Imagine More Cards cartridges.

Happy Valentine's Day, my blogging friends! I hope you all have a fabulous day!

Last week I was very excited to find the spa socks back at Michael's. I bought a few pair to make cupcakes for some friends. For directions on how to make these, go to the blog of the incredibly creative Carrie at Greenbean's Crafterole. I used the Easter cartridge to make the cupcake wrappers at 10.5" in width.

Crafting With Eric

My 15-year-old son, Eric, wanted to make a card for his girlfriend tonight. I had a few leftover hearts from my Valentine Tree project from last week and told him he could use those. He wanted to make a card himself. In his words, "I picked out the paper, made the dots, stamped the ticket, and stuck it all together with the ATG gun." He even made an envelope using my Kreate-a-Lope, and now he thinks my stuff is "pretty legit".

Basketball Coach's Gift

Click here to see my post for Emma's Stamptastic Blog Hop. You have until Sunday to leave a comment and have a chance to win a My Creative Time Stamp Set!

Today is my son's last basketball game of the season, and we'll be having a celebration afterward. The team mom has been collecting money to give to the coaches, and I offered to make money holders, using the team colors. These were super easy to create, following a video from Creations With Christina. Here is how the inside looks:

The paper for the card itself is cut at 8 3/4" x 7", scored at 3" and 6". The red layer is 2 3/4" x 6 3/4". All of my cuts are 2 1/2", from the Sports Mania cartridge. Here are the other two that I made. I just need to add the twine and tags once I have the rest of the money to put inside!

Sewn Valentine Tag

For my design team project for Creative Critterz Imaginations today, I have a fun tag that I made to go with a Valentine's Day gift for a friend. This was really simple to make. First I cut a tag and its shadow from Tags, Bags, Boxes, and More at 4" using the "Cut Only " feature on my Imagine. Then I used the square that is a stock image on the Imagine, and flood filled four of them with different patterns from the Yummy cartridge at 5". Using my paper trimmer, I cut various shapes out of the patterned squares and adhered them to the tag with a small bit of mono-adhesive. I stayed away from the edges, so as not to gunk up my sewing machine. Then I sewed the pieces to the tag and adhered the whole thing to the shadow piece.

For embellishments, I added a cute sentiment on a ticket, some felt flowers with a button, and an eyelet with some pretty ribbon. Easy, but fun! Be sure to stop by Creative Critterz Imaginations to see what the rest of the design team has created for you this week!

What's Love Got To Do With It? (With Video)

Today the Craft Junkie Too's Crafty Designers are sharing some fun Valentine's Day Projects! Tracy asked us to create a gift bag, party favor, treat bag, or box, incorporating the word "Love" into it. For my project I created little pencil topper party favors to give to my students at our class Valentine's Day party. This picture shows the four different kinds that I created, displayed in a "Love" bucket that I made by simply cutting Love at 1.5" (real size) from Gyspy Wanderings in brown vinyl and attaching it to a $2 pail from Michael's.

Each topper is made with 2 hearts from Create a Critter, cut at real size 3". All of the critters are cut at 2", and the "Hugs" hearts (stamp from My Creative Time's "You Had Me At Chocolate") are cut at real size 3/4". The toppers for the girls were dressed up with some Prima flowers.

Here is a video of how I used my Gypsy to make the piece that attached the topper to the pencil.

Another Nate's ABCs Valentine

I'm getting lots of use out of this cartridge for Valentine's Day! There is an image of a dog in a wagon on the cartridge, but I actually used a different wagon and a different dog, because I really wanted the dog with the leash in her mouth. Isn't she cute? The dog is cut at 3.25" and the wagon at 2.88", and then I attached a 0.75" (real size) heart from Create a Critter to the leash. The heart, of course, has a sentiment from My Creative Time's "You Had Me At Chocolate" stamp set, my go-to stamps for Valentine's Day. To bling up the collar, I added some gems with my iRock.

Valentine for My Boy

The Cricut Cardz Challenge this week is to make a Valentine's Day card for a man. I made one for my almost-man, my 15 year old son. When I saw this robot on the Robotz cartridge, I knew I had to use it. Doesn't he look like a gangly teenage boy? Something about those arms reminds me of my basketball playing Eric.

The robot is cut at 4", and he's holding a 1" (real size) heart from Create a Critter. The sentiments are from My Creative Time's "You Had Me At Chocolate" Stamp Set (click here for ordering information). Both the card and matching envelope are from Wild Card, cut at 7". I used my Gypsy to hide the cut-outs on them.

I free hand cut the layers on the outside and inside of the card, and I didn't bother cutting the liner for the envelope, since I was using double-sided paper.
